There are things that I would tell my younger self, if I could go back and tell her.
Dear younger me,
Life is a gift, don’t waste the precious moments fretting over nonsense. God is truly in control and the sooner you get that, the better off you’ll be. Each moment is a priceless treasure. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Forgive more freely. Grudges are ridiculous. A waste of time and they hold you back.
Love more fully. Look at everyone with the eyes of JESUS.
Try new things. Foods. Activities. Sports. Musical Instruments. Don’t worry how you’ll look trying them. You are the one who will regret not trying something that you’ve always wanted to experience.
Let it go. Sorry if you are now singing the FROZEN lyrics. But seriously. Let things go. Don’t waste your time mulling over things that you have zero control over.
Go ahead and surrender fully to God. Again. Look at the time that is wasted in disobedience when you could be living in freedom.
Spend time daily in God’s WORD. That’s where you will grow. The Bible holds all of life’s answers! Read it. Study it. Marinate in it. And do it again. Then. Live it.
Slow down. Look around. Really see those around you.
Don’t worry so much. Most of the things we worry about never happen!
Don’t forget who you are. Don’t lose yourself. Take time to do the things that bring you joy.
Drink water! Lots of it. Eat healthy. Good habits are easier to keep than bad habits are to break.
Don’t try to fit in. Be you boldly.
Shoulder pads should only be worn by football players. Just because everyone else is wearing it doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.. I.E.: Parachute pants, high waisted jeans, and tight rolled jeans.
Wash your face, use moisturizer and use eye cream! (I’m serious. Good skincare prevents wrinkles.. And hello. I turned 41 today.) AND sunscreen! Oh and don’t fry yourself in the sun to get a tan just because everyone else is doing it. (Wrinkles, age spots.. That’s what ..ahem.. I hear)
Embrace who God made you to be. Listen more. Talk less. Think before you speak. Bridle your tongue. Overlook offenses. Be a blessing. Shine JESUS. Don’t gossip. Don’t say anything behind anyone’s back that you wouldn’t say to their face.
Don’t worry so much about what others think about you.. Because truth is, they seldom think about you as much as you think anyways.
Tell the ones you love that you love them. You never know when it may be your last chance.
Write down the memories that you don’t want to forget. No matter how small. Take lots of photos. Again.. Memories.
Quit procrastinating. Do the things you know you are called to do. Even if 500 other people are doing it too!
Be present. Fully. Pay attention to the little things.
Don’t leave your loved ones without a hug and an ” I love you”.
Never go to bed angry. Live each moment like its the last moment. It may very well be.
Remember this…
as my Daddy would always say : “Every day is a good day.”
Those are just a few things that I would tell my younger self.
These are things that I try to implement in my life now. I’m far from there yet.. But I thank God that I’m a work in progress and HE is not finished with me yet.
Until Next Time,
Heather
